Cookies & Tracking Policy
This page explains how ALECS Africa uses cookies, local storage and similar technologies when you use our platform. It is editable project content, not an independent certification.
We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, understand how the platform is used, and — if you choose — support future re-engagement campaigns. You can accept or reject non-essential categories at any time using the cookie banner or the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.
These cookies and storage items are required for the site to function. They cannot be disabled through the consent banner.
- Authentication session — stores your sign-in token so you can stay logged in across pages. Expires on sign-out or when the session ends.
- Consent state — records which categories you have accepted or rejected so the banner does not reappear on every visit.
Analytics is enabled by default. It helps us understand which features matter most so we can improve the product.
- Page views and events — we record the pages you visit and feature interactions in our analytics_events table. Data is tied to an anonymous session ID stored in
sessionStorage, not to your personal identity unless you are signed in. - Referrer and user agent — collected to understand traffic sources and device types. Stored only in the analytics database, not shared with third-party analytics providers.
- Retention — analytics events are kept for product-analysis purposes. You can revoke analytics consent at any time; new events will stop being collected and the session identifier is reset.
Marketing cookies are used for re-engagement and campaign measurement. None are active today, but we ask for consent in advance so we can use them in the future without interrupting you again.
- Campaign attribution — if we run re-engagement campaigns, these cookies help measure whether a visit came from a specific campaign.
- Retention — if enabled, marketing identifiers are kept only as long as the campaign is active and are removed when you revoke consent.
Location tracking is off by default. If you enable it, we store your country and city to personalize legal guidance and improve jurisdiction coverage. Street-level location is only recorded when your browser explicitly shares it.
- Purpose — pre-selecting the correct jurisdiction, surfacing local compliance rules, and showing relevant lawyer marketplace results.
- Storage — stored in our backend database linked to your account if you are signed in; otherwise not collected.
- Retention — location audit entries are kept while the account is active. You can disable location at any time from the cookie preferences.
You can change your consent at any time by clicking the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer or by reopening the cookie banner. Your choices are stored in the browser and apply to the current device.
